Spring Hill Middle School gets the overall award for MyKANSAS! 2010 project
Christine Hecke & Debra Sims' 7th grade class turned in the winning publication for the 2010 MyKANSAS! project. Their MyKANSAS! magazine about the Spring Hill area and people was nicely assembled. They really took the project a long way!
From Miss Sims:
Our whole 7th was familiar with the project because not only did they see the finished magazine, but our magazine staff also presented, via PowerPoint, their research to them. The 7th graders took a pretest on Spring Hill history before the presentation and a posttest after. Before the presentation over 86 percent of the answers to questions were wrong, yet after the presentation over 84 percent were right.
The students also presented to five local groups: the city council, the board of education, the Women’s Auxiliary, the Spring Hill Historical Society and to the senior luncheons.
Thank you for offering the opportunity for the students to become involved with this project. Miss Hecke and I had an end of the year party for them a little over week ago and all stated that they enjoyed the project and that they had learned a lot about history, grammar and punctuation, research, teamwork and also public speaking. Several stated that the only thing they didn't really like was the editing and reediting for correct grammar and punctuation.
